YOOF is our youth group for young people between the ages of 10 and 18. The presence of our group gives youmg people an opportunity to get together socially.
We meet on a Sunday evening from 7.00 – 8.30 in The Parish Hall on Hallgarth Pickering.
The group is open to those of all faiths or none. Our evening usually flows like this:
- 20 – 30 minutes of Christian input – we like this session to be interactive and challenging for the leaders and the young people.
- 30 minutes of art and crafts, drama or cooking – usually messy and fun.
- Games – lively, definately interactive and very enjoyable.
The aim of the Group is to provide a safe place where young people can learn, have fun, take part in such activities as drama, arts & crafts, cooking and music (though this is not an exhaustive list), play games, and enjoy each others' company. There is an opportunity for them to explore, discuss and discover aspects of the Christian faith. There are also outings to places of interest or to do specific activities. We like to encourage team working and consideration of others.
There is no charge for membership. All leaders and helpers are CRB checked and approved by the Parochial Church Council for this work.

Recent things we have done:
- In the summer we had a day out to Yorkshire Sculpture Park. One of the leaders put together a treasure for us and we had a brilliant day.
- We had a tasting and smelling food games. The raw garlic and mustard were disgusting. The dark and milk chocolate were a lot nicer.
- Our leaders issued us with the following newsflash to deal with:
Urgent newsflash
Unfortunately all key members of the church have been confined to their homes with an illness that means they are going to be out of action for approximately 12 weeks. You have been asked to run the church and keep things going as best you can for this period. You will treat the next 20 minutes as time for an emergency meeting. You must elect one person to chair the meeting, a timekeeper and someone to note decisions and action points.
Please ensure that everyone gets chance to contribute and that you listen to everyone’s ideas. Only one person to talk at once.
Below are listed some of the questions that Father Anthony and the PCC have asked that you answer;
- What roles do you think each of you could take on; everyone should sign up to something e.g vicar, curate, church warden, in charge of refreshments, Sunday school etc.....
- What would you do within the 12 weeks to try to increase the congregation size....all ages?
- What changes would you like to see in the Church or to the services?
- What would you call your Church?
- If you could have your own group name like the PCC are the PCC what would you call your group?
- Can you think of a symbol for your group?
- Is there anything else you think you need to discuss?
- How do you feel about taking over the Church? Ask everyone in the group?
We had good fun taking over the Church for an evening and came up with some good ideas.
- We looked at the Lord’s Prayer and what the words mean. We had a go at putting movement into the Lord’s Prayer. Two of us acted out a skit on the Lord’s Prayer. We also had a lot of fun listening to alternative lord’s prayers found on the internet and writing our own Lord’s Prayers. We have added some of these below:

The Bus Driver’s Lord’s Prayer
Our Farnham who art in Hendon
Harrow be Thy name.
Thy Kingston come; thy Wimbledon,
In Erith as it is in Hendon.
Give us this day our daily Brent
And forgive us our Westminster
As we forgive those who Westminster against us
And lead us not into Thames Ditton
But deliver us from Yeovil.
For Thine is the Kingston, the Purley and the Crawley,
For Esher and Esher.
Crouch End.
The Lord's Prayer (A Modern Version)
Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best— as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You're ablaze in beauty!
Yes. Yes. Yes.

Our Own Work – YOOF’s Lord’s Prayer
Tom’s
Our God in heaven
Holy is your name
May your Kingdom come to earth and force Gordon Brown out of office,
May the things you’ve asked to get to do get done
Give us today our food – a big roast dinner would be nice
Do not let us get mad and do bad stuff
As we forgive those who do bad things towards us
Do not let us be tempted and don’t let us become evil and walk to the dark side like Darf Vader and Emperor Zurg from Toy Story 2
For yours is the universe, the power and the glory
For ever and ever and ever and ever and ever (recurring)
So be it
The Girl’s
Oh God who lives in heaven
No match is the best
People will worship you
Everything you will be done.
The same on earth and heaven
Give us what we NEED for the day.
Forgive us for all that we have done wrong.
We’ll try and do the same as you
Help us keep our control and temper
And keep us away from evil
Everything belongs to you.
For yours is all the power for the rest of time
Amen
